Nature journaling is the practice of drawing or writing in response to nature. This fun, relaxing practice helps you to connect more closely with nature, and results in the creation of your own unique nature journal.
Nature journaling can be used as an inspiring tool to engage with nature, stimulating your curiosity, recognizing wonder and (re)connecting with the world around you. Over time it will help you improve your drawing skills in a playful manner, by experimenting with registration methods and different materials. At the same time, it will increase your knowledge and recognition of different animal and plant species.
The workshop starts with an introduction of the beginning of nature journaling and by giving a few inspiring examples. Together we will go outside to have an in-field-experience to explore the nature of the city, where you can draw the model of your choice. After having created the sketch, we will go back to the museum to add some colors and details, we will explain how to further elaborate it with acrylic paintings.
This workshop is part of the programming around our new exhibit From Pencil to Pixel – contemporary scientific illustration.
This workshop is suitable for anyone with prior drawing experience, from novices to experts: everyone is welcome.
About the expert illustrators
This workshop is given by Roberta Müller and Lina Pardo, two medical and scientific illustrators with a background in Biology and Ecology (respectively). For them, scientific illustration is a tool that communicates knowledge that can also be used to approach topics which you want to learn more about. It is a tool that allows us to discover and get closer to science in a dynamic and fun way.
