Past exhibition
An air guitar-playing kangaroo, a "cabaret bear" and a swan selfie: the 2023 edition of Comedy Wildlife gets a golden star! Besides (very) funny photos, there are numerous creative and artistic ones amongst the finalists this year.
The unintentionally comical wildlife photos of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards are now on display in the Netherlands for the sixth year in this special exhibition - exclusively at Natuurmuseum Brabant. Each year, a jury of photographers and wildlife professionals selects 40 finalists from thousands of entries from both professional and amateur photographers from all over the world. There is again a Dutch entry among them this year, by Alex Pansier.
How it started: recognisability and humour
Comedy Wildlife has been around since 2015 and is based on the golden combination of recognisability & humour. Nature photographers Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-Hicks regularly pressed the shutter on their cameras at exactly the right moment and then saw comical facial expressions on the animals in the photos, or captured apparently funny situations. The pair saw an opportunity to use the photos to raise awareness of conservation in a positive way; the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards were born.
