Partly open
A part of our historic building will be undergoing future-proofing renovations through November 2025. As a result, this exhibition is only partly open- but the Sperm Whale can be seen! And there’s still plenty to discover at Natuurmuseum Brabant.
Showpiece weighing 1,000 kilos
Next to the museum entrance, you will find one of the most impressive objects we have: the skeleton of a sperm whale. This skeleton, 15 metres in length and weighing 1,000 kilos, is one of the three sperm whales that washed up on the shores of Scheveningen in 1995. It is a male that was not fully grown. So, fully-grown he would have been even heavier and even bigger!
The skeleton is so large that it has its own gallery: the Sperm Whale Room. There, you can walk around and under the sperm whale. Imagine a sperm whale swimming through the ocean as elegantly as a small fish. In this gallery, the sperm whale is accompanied by a bottlenose dolphin and other creatures from the sea. It is a stunning gallery that honours a beautiful mammal!
All exhibitions are included in the admission price.
