About the workshop Creating volume and depth in a drawing
Do you sometimes think your drawing looks a bit “flat”? And are you looking for some hands-on advice to improve your drawing techniques? In this workshop we will share a few tips to create volume and depth, and help enhance the three-dimensionality of your drawing which can be used on any subject matter. The tips will be applicable to a variety of techniques and styles, whether for quick sketching, pencil drawing, line drawings, etc. In this workshop we will use some bones and torso models from the collection of Natuurmuseum Brabant.

Jun-Yin Pai and Merlijn van Bijsterveld
Jun-Yin Pai worked 15 years in the field of developmental neurobiology. As she says, she "left the bench for a science communication gig to translate complex scientific findings and ideas into compelling visuals". Just like Merlijn, Jun Yin is also studying in the Master Scientific Illustration program in Maastricht.
Merlijn van Bijsterveld is a Dutch illustrator. After graduating in illustration from the Minerva Art Academy (Groningen) in 2012, Merlijn works as a freelance illustrator for many different media, from books to magazines to websites. Currently he is studying for his master's degree in Scientific Illustration at the Maastricht University/Zuyd Hogeschool.
